Another Positive Feedback from Sharon Ng!
This is the latest testimonial from Sharon Ng~
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to express my thanks for arranging my swimming lessons with instructor Alvin Ong.
With Alvin's coaching and guidance, I was able to make significant progress from one who totally knew nothing about swimming and had great phobia just putting my head, holding my breath under the water since young to being able to enjoy simple swimming across the pool in just 3 months, something I thought I would never be able to achieve after so long!
I enjoy attending Alvin’s lessons because they are very systematic and allow real beginners like me to grasp the movements of the stroke step by step logically till we are able to combine them altogether. Alvin is also attentive to his student’s learning progress. He constantly focuses part of the lessons to make sure I am aware of and to correct or overcome areas that I am weaker in. He also makes sure we learn essential water survival techniques alongside the learning of the swimming strokes. I can see and enjoy my progress after each lesson and i feel really great!
I am really glad I signed up for the private swimming lessons with Happy Fish Swim School and under the guidance of a great instructor. I now enjoy swimming as a form of past time, exercise and leisure.
Thank you. I really appreciate it.

Success Story shared by Kunal Jindal
Firstly, let me objectively talk about my swimming capability before the classes and also the results achieved ..
Background- For 24 years (my present age), i wanted to learn swimming, but could never attempt to do so primarily because of high power spectacles i wore from a small age, which made it difficult (uncomfortable) to go into water. I went for LASIK around 12 months back, so i was keen to learn swimming ever since. But the challenge for me was my age and the zero experience in swimming.
Results- In 6 classes (6 weeks of individual lessons), I learnt Breast Stroke and Freestyle Swimming. I had confidence to go into the deep waters alone.. Offcourse, I still need more practice to perfect the strokes, but I believe being 80-90%there in two strokes (of swimming) in such timeline given no previous experience is a big achievement.
I would like to heartily thank Alvin for being a great mentor/coach/friend for the last 2 months or so and being the enabler of such spectacular results.
Some of the admirable things i picked up about Alvin..
1)Alvin has a great passion for the sport of swimming and that reflects in his body language. He is personally motivated to make others learn swimming. He keeps encouraging me to go for life savers course to enable saving lives even well after i have stopped taking the classes..
2) He is very skilled at the intricate details of the art of swimming. He also has immense experience (more than 10-12 years)in being a swimming coach..
3)He also has a very friendly and approachable nature which enables students to ask even stupid questions and get their hesitations removed.. He even spent time for a post swim - tea discussion and a dinner with his other students (including me).
4) He is genuinely interested in students progress and challenges them for the next level of learning-irrespective of time/money/other constraints- I wanted to learn as many strokes as possible within least time and he was very very supportive/encouraging of the idea.. The testimony of that is the incredible results achieved.
5) He is also willing to put in the extra effort in order to get students coached. As i was interested in learning snorkelling, he even picked me up from my office and took me to a shop for the equipment, bargained for me and got me a good deal.. He also taught the basics of snorkelling (beyond swimming to me)
6) He is also enouraging to students to think beyond swimming.. He also motivated me for diving course in Malaysia once i was skilled enough..
Thanks Alvin.. Hope you are just as motivated to teach others the art of swimming throughout.

Inspring Success Story by Penny
Here's a feedback from our student Ms. Penny.
Thank you for arranging my swimming lessons with Ms Kum today, at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex (every Weds 7pm).
I am very impressed with Ms Kum. She is exactly what a swimming instructor should be - very professional, thorough and speaks well. Started off with completing a form, giving our personal details and next of kin contact in case of emergencies.
Begins with some theory lessons on preparation before swimming. No eating at least 3-4 hours before classes. No wearing ear-rings or other jewellery. Don’t exercise in water too much before class as this will tire our muscles quickly. Rules of swimming: never swim alone – always be with someone. When swimming in the sea, always swim along coastline, never towards the open sea due to strong tides.
Ms Kum also showed the proper way to enter the pool using ladder. Thereafter, started breathing techniques, arm movements, head control in and out of water. The right way to pull legs under water to a stand position. When to use float, when to let go, how to float.....
Before I knew it, the lesson was over. It was a very productive first lesson and I really enjoyed myself very much.
It is very important and beneficial to both parties that theory, structure, understanding of swimming, environmental conditions should be acknowledged, not merely just getting in a pool and splashing around. As a beginner, the crucial facts of swimming that Ms Kum highlighted to us 3 ladies yesterday are extremely significant and of valuable information. I did not know it myself. As much as swimming is an enjoyment, we should also be advised of the dangers it entails and the consequences leading to mishaps.
I look forward to many lessons with Ms Kum.

Becoming a swimming instructor
Teaching others how to swim, water safety and lifesaving skill is an enjoyable and rewarding career. We have received lots of inquiries from people, showing their interest in becoming a swimming instructor. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you, how to become a swimming instructor in Singapore.
Few years back when I was a life guard, I earn a decent income watching over the safety of swimmers in and around the pool. It was cool but I wasn't satisfied. Hence, I asked around to get information on how to become a swimming instructor. I manage to get information piece by piece and finally, I put them all together and got my license to teach swimming!
Here's the summarize version and the right path for those who are interested to teach swimming as a career.
There are 3 major swimming instructor certificate which you can consider taking.
- National Registry of Coaches (NROC) by Singapore Sports Council
- Basic Teacher's Certificate (BTC) by Singapore Swimming Teachers' Association
- AUSTSWIM Certification
1. NROC: This certificate allows you to teach in public swimming complex as well as private / condo pools. However, this certificate is only recognized in Singapore. You may need to go for accreditation should you need to teach in other countries. In order to get this certificate, you must go through National Coaching Accreditation Programme(NCAP) Theory Level 1 and Technical Level 1.
2. BTC: This certificate allows you in teach in private / condo pools only.
3. Austswim: There are different specialization for Austswim certification. You may choose to specialize in students with special needs or infant aquatics. Just for your information, there is a huge market for infant aquatics in Singapore.
Lastly, the certificate means nothing if you have no student to teach. Hence, joining a reputable swim school is critical. You need to have regular new student joining your class and fill up your slots. To join Happy Fish Swim School as a swimming instructor, you may refer to http://www.swimminglessons.com.sg/swimming-instructor.htm.

Guys, why we want you to learn swimming
Are you an adult that doesn't know how to swim? Then it is important to know why we want you to learn how to swim. This is important for anyone's safety around or in water. The best way to learn how to swim is to find a swimming school or swimming classes that you can take.
Adult swimming lessons are offered all over the place, no matter where you live. It will just take some time to find the swimming lessons to take. Start your search with the local phone book, then get online if needed. Find a place to take lessons and before long, swimming will be second nature to you.
There are a couple of different reasons why every adult needs to know how to swim. Here are some of the most important reasons:
One: You never know when around or in water if danger will strike. If it does, it is imperative to know what to do to get out of it. This could literally save your life someday. Don't take lightly how dangerous water can be, lessons are a big benefit for anyone's safety.
Two: Many people have a fear of water and taking lessons as an adult can help to overcome that fear. There may be times in your life that water will be around whether it is liked or not, and learning how to protect yourself and others around will definitely be helpful.
Three: If you have children, they are eventually going to want to get in water to play and swim. This is a very important reason for every parent to learn how to swim. Kids have to be protected in water, so it is your job to do that by learning how to swim yourself.
These are definitely not all of the reasons you want to learn to swim. They are very important reasons though. Swimming is something that anyone can learn to do if lessons are taken. All it takes is time and practice.
Don't delay in finding lessons that you can take as soon as possible. The sooner swimming is second nature, the better off your life will be and the safer the kids will be, if there are any. Adults need to know how to swim for so many different reasons, so find the best way for learning how now to be sure water is never a threat again.

Arrange Meet-up Location With Your Instructor
Congratulations for those who has registered with Happy Fish Swim School. You have definitely make the right choice for you swimming career.
Before proceeding to your lesson, it is always good to give your instructor a call to confirm meet-up area. It is because the swimming pool may be crowded and you will have a hard time to look for your instructor. We don't want to waste our time looking for swimming instructor, do we?
On the other hand, if your lesson falls on the weekend, it is always advisable to contact your instructor before Friday. Swimming instructors have always been busy during the weekend as they have back to back lessons in the pool. Handphones aren't waterproofed, they can't answer your phone calls when they are in the pool.
So, to play safe, always contact your instructor before your first lesson!

Planning activities for your child's holiday?
Welcome back! Are you one of those parents who wish your child to pick up swimming skill within a short period? Perhaps, you just want to plan some excellent activities for them during the school holidays?
This is a good option for you, the School Holiday Intensive Swimming Lessons is back on popular demand. Now, instead of playing computer games or watching TV at home, you have another option for your children -- learn swimming and meet new pals at the same time.
Well, here's my interesting findings and observations for intensive swimming lessons. There's a situation called "Cry when join and cry when leave". I saw some children were crying during their first lesson, they seems to be forced to join the lesson. However, I saw them crying again during the last lesson. You know what, they have made a lot of friends and share tonnes of memories with them. The seperation was unbearable.
Well, they do come back for our weekly group swimming lessons! This is what I call "learn new skill and meet new pals at the same time".
If you are ready to take your child on this ride, please come by Holiday Intensive Swimming Lessons.
